Hollowland, Angelfire, & Heart of Brass Mini Reviews

Today is take 2 in my multi-book reviews. I made some tweaks and I've changed the name, but hopefully it's just as helpful as my old reviews were. Below you'll find more details on each book including summaries, checklists, categories, and protagonist meters. My reviews are also posted on Goodreads. So follow me there.

Hollowland
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Hollowland - the first book in the young adult dystopian series The Hollows...
"This is the way the world ends - not with a bang or a whimper, but with zombies breaking down the back door."

Nineteen-year-old Remy King is on a mission to get across the wasteland left of America, and nothing will stand in her way - not violent marauders, a spoiled rock star, or an army of flesh-eating zombies.

I feel the need to give this five stars. Sure there were typos (not as many as were in Switched) and some continuity errors, but the story shined right through for me.

This girl can kick some serious zombie ass! I only knocked her one point because she is not as effective against uninfected humans.

Angelfire (Angelfire, #1)
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

First there are nightmares.
Every night Ellie is haunted by terrifying dreams of monstrous creatures that are hunting her, killing her.

Then come the memories.
When Ellie meets Will, she feels on the verge of remembering something just beyond her grasp. His attention is intense and romantic, and Ellie feels like her soul has known him for centuries. On her seventeenth birthday, on a dark street at midnight, Will awakens Ellie's power, and she knows that she can fight the creatures that stalk her in the grim darkness. Only Will holds the key to Ellie's memories, whole lifetimes of them, and when she looks at him, she can no longer pretend anything was just a dream.

Now she must hunt.
Ellie has power that no one can match, and her role is to hunt and kill the reapers that prey on human souls. But in order to survive the dangerous and ancient battle of the angels and the Fallen, she must also hunt for the secrets of her past lives and truths that may be too frightening to remember.

It took me a really long time to finish this book. I really had a hard time connecting to Ellie. However, there were some developments in the story near the end that took things to a new level. So I'm looking forward to the third book.

Ellie has the power to be badass and the training to kick a lot of butt, but it takes her a really long time to come into it.

Heart of Brass (Clockwork Agents, #1)
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Arden is an undercover agent for one of the most powerful organizations of this steam-powered world—the Wardens of the Realm, a group with extraordinary abilities, dedicated to protecting England against evil.

Arden Grey enjoys a life most women in 1898 London can’t even dream of: she has the social status, wealth, and independence of a countess. She also has the ability to witness the final moments of a murder victim’s life. But ever since the disappearance of her husband, Lucas, none of this means anything to her. Until one night, when Arden spies a man watching her—a man she recognizes as her missing husband.

He’s been ordered to assassinate Arden as retribution for her part in the killing of a Company agent. Luke remembers nothing of his life before The Company, a corrupt agency that has erased his memory. Even so, something prevents him from completing his assignment. There is something familiar about his lovely target, something that attracts him and fills him with dread. For he knows that if he doesn’t kill her, someone else will—and kill him as well.

I very much enjoyed this book. It was sweet, sexy, and had great Steampunk elements. I very much look forward to the sequel.

The Female lead in this is smart, resourceful, and a bit of an inventor. However, she's not much of a badass. The male lead in this is the opposite. He is a badass and he's not someone that I would want to mess with.
