For Darkness Shows The Stars Giveaway (CLOSED)

For Darkness Shows the Stars
For Darkness Shows the Stars by Diana Peterfreund
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

It's been several generations since a genetic experiment gone wrong caused the Reduction, decimating humanity and giving rise to a Luddite nobility who outlawed most technology.

Elliot North has always known her place in this world. Four years ago Elliot refused to run away with her childhood sweetheart, the servant Kai, choosing duty to her family's estate over love. Since then the world has changed: a new class of Post-Reductionists is jumpstarting the wheel of progress, and Elliot's estate is foundering, forcing her to rent land to the mysterious Cloud Fleet, a group of shipbuilders that includes renowned explorer Captain Malakai Wentforth--an almost unrecognizable Kai. And while Elliot wonders if this could be their second chance, Kai seems determined to show Elliot exactly what she gave up when she let him go.

But Elliot soon discovers her old friend carries a secret--one that could change their society . . . or bring it to its knees. And again, she's faced with a choice: cling to what she's been raised to believe, or cast her lot with the only boy she's ever loved, even if she's lost him forever.

Inspired by Jane Austen's "Persuasion", "For Darkness Shows the Stars" is a breathtaking romance about opening your mind to the future and your heart to the one person you know can break it.

  1. The Scorpio Races was the last book that surprised me. I'm not a fan of horse books/movies. Love the animal though but anything about them kept disappointing me! Then I read that book and I loved them! Granted these weren't ordinary horses but still. It was different and I enjoyed it :).
I was really surprised how much I liked War Horse the movie too!! It was freaking amazing! Have you seen it?

  2. I did see War Horse and I enjoyed it. I didn't like it as much as I had thought though. It felt more like the horse was meant to be a narrator for the war. Some of the inaccuracies with the horses also bothered me. The horse did things that a horse would never do. For example: there's a scene with the two horses laying down and sleeping in a barn. Horses sleep standing up. They rarely lay down to sleep. Yes, they were small inaccuracies, but I didn't expect them in such a big budget film. I tried reading Scorpio Races and didn't get very far into it. I think I was just put off because the horses weren't real horses and that was a twist that I wasn't expecting. I might try again though because I did have high hopes for the book.

  3. K so honestly I decided to read 50 shades of Grey because there has been so much hype about it and they had it at my library so I got it. I got about half way through the book before I just couldn't stomach it anymore. I mean it is suppose to be a romance but honestly it is basically just about sex. So this was defiantly not my kind of book and going into it I figured it might not be but it was worse then I thought it would be!!!

  4. I'm not surprised. I've been told by many avid readers that it is just about sex. I've read some excerpts from it and just laughed my ass off. It's sad that so many people have taken to it. Are they so sheltered that one erotica book sends them into a frenzy?

  9. Hmm....something that REALLy surprised me was likely Insurgent which I read the day it came out. The surprise at the end and cliffhanger left my mouth hanging wide open. It was definitley in a good way, but slightly bad since I have to wait for the third book! :D

  10. Good to know. I won't rush to read it then :)

  11. Sorry to jump in! But the true love part doesn't come in till the 3rd book. Sadly, the reason why I liked it was because it was Twilight without vampires and lots of sex basically haha. So it was just me being able to hold on to Twilight a little bit longer. Lol. But it's not the best erotic novel I've read. So, skip to the 3rd book if you want love, that book doesn't have that much sex in it either.

  12. Wow, three books before it even get's to "true love". That's a seriously stretched out plot. It was written as Twilight fan fiction, so I'm not surprised that you liked it for that reason.

  13. The last book that surprised me would have to be Fallen by Lauren Kate. I thought that I would absolutely love it, but I ended up not liking it at all.

  14. I'm bummed to hear that, but it's not the first time that I've heard such comments about the series. I have the first two, but I haven't read them yet. I probably won't for some time actually.

  15. I liked Twilight, but I can't see this book working for me. Maybe if Stephenie had written it with her characters. Otherwise, I tend to not like books that are "like" Twilight. That series seems to be the only exception that I can make for myself.

  16. I really enjoyed Twilight, but I felt that Twilight at least had a story outside of the romance that was good too. I don't know I just couldn't get into this book, but maybe I would enjoy the third book much better. I don't think that I will read it though, I just don't think its a type of book for me. Thanks for the opinion though.

  17. The last book that really surprised me is actually the one that I'm currently reading, Matched. I've heard nothing but good things but I'm not really diggin' it...To me I feel like the characters are just mediocre and it's very predictable. So unfortunately, bad surprise. :[

  18. Yea, so I'd only recommend it for people who liked Twilight. If you hated Twilight or only thought it was mediocre then you won't like that either.

  19. Bummer! I haven't read that book yet, but I do own it. I hope my experience is different, because I really wanted to like that one.

Then she heard it; the thudding of swift moving, heavy paws. She tapped the reins against Charming’s neck. He spun on his heel as Belle drew one of her revolvers... Find out what happens next in THE BEAST: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00Z5LOJVA
